I assume The Cure are originally from London. Did Robert Smith
"followed" eighties artists like Morrissey or Dave Gahan and now live
in USA ?

No, The Cure formed in Crawley although Robert was born in Blackpool. He
still lives in the UK - possibly still on the south coast somewhere (maybe
Bognor Regis)

Different members of the band (both past and present) were born in all sorts
of places, to be perfectly honest. I seem to recall at least two of them
being born outside of England and then moving to England later, actually. I
think it was Michael Dempsey, who was born in Salisbury, Zimbabwe (Formerly
Southern Rhodesia when he was a little baby in the late 50's), and Boris
Williams who was born in Versailles, France in 1957 and actually lived in
Yugoslavia until 1963.

They of course moved to England later, though. As a boy, Robert Smith lived
in three different sections of England, but in Crawley (South of London and
east of Kent) for the longest period of time. He was born in Blackpool
(Lancashire) and lived in Horley (Surrey) for a while. Blackpool is along
the water up North and is nowhere near London, although England is certainly
not an incredibly large country. Surrey is down South right beneath London
and Croydon and above both East and West Sussex.

Smith grew up near the Irish Sea in a more Northern part of the country, yet
he has spent his adulthood much closer to the Straight of Dover and the
English Channel in the South of England, above France. (Probably part of why
he's fond of visiting Paris and Versailles and has spoke of it in
interviews.)

As a very young boy he resided above Wales, in a totally different part of
England. So, no, he was not born in or near London. He instead moved quite
close to London in his boyhood at the age of about seven accoring to
Barbarian/Smith/and Sutherland's Ten Imaginary Years, of which Robert
himself co-wrote.

Isn't the English Channel EAST of Kent?
Did bob live on a boat / ferry?
Surely you mean WEST?

What are these "sections" in England?

Dover is in KENT, which is further from Crawley than London is from
Crawley.
So I am interested how you say Crawley is not near London, but Crawley
is near Dover??

Crawley is about 90 minutes on a train to Victoria (London)
or 5 minutes drive to Gatwick Airport and then 30 minutes on the
Gatwick Express to London, Victoria.

Good thinking! Now, as Crawley is Nearer to Portmouth ( home of the
Navy) than France, can we understand Robert likes a sailor too then,
they are "local"?? Does mary know???

You didn't read that correctly. LMAO.... I never said Wales was in
England......that's hilarious that you thought I did. I said he resided *IN
ENGLAND* in a part of the country that is situated up above Wales. I'm
convinced that you have trouble reading. That's hilarious that you could've
read it that way, though...

Ok will grant you that one, my manly fellow poster.

However the other correcions stand

And you must agree you post was random in structure without a logical plot.
(typical JN post from what i recall).

Well, Geez, if you feel that way, killfile a person instead of bitching like
a toothless grandmother that you're somehow bothered by them all of the
time. Shit, don't you KNOW how to use a killfile or would you rather just
bitch on PMS all of the time? You probably don't know how...yeah, it
figures....

hell no, pretending that ways, things and places you don't like don't exist
is the american way.

( see past discussions on in which country in luxembourg "orange" is)

A better way, is to acknowledge the existence of these other ways, things
and places, highlight the errors and correct them.

(we had this with the various ass/arsehole conversations)

You may find it easier to accept the suggestions as and when they arise
rather than complain about feedback that won't stop.

To be more precise, in Aldwick Bay in Bognor Regis.

Well, he missed the concert in George, WA this Summer because he had to rush
back to "his home near London" for a family Emergency, according to all of
our local newspapers. The concert was made up at the end of the month in
Everett, WA instead. No, he doesn't live in California part time like
Morrissey does.

By US standards Bognor Regis (or wherever on the South coast) is near
London. It is on the coast as I remember reading about Robert walking his
dog(s) on the beach most days.

Thanks for your answer. Do you know what has motivated Robert Smith to
stay in dear old Blighty ? I found it quite common that english pop
stars eventually move to America.

I believe he intended to move to the US during the mid to late 80s.

However despite spending considerable years eating pies his
application was turned down as he wasn't quite "elasticated waist
jeans wearing" fat enough to qualify.

Subsequently he gave up the idea and lost the flab.
